So I was looking for wheel fitments on the Alfa to the Fiat 4x98 and came across this site:
http://www.automobile-catalog.com/
Awesome site that had everything you wanted and for me not wanted to know. Well looking under Fiats I see the 124BS1 cars listed as 1972 models. My Car is a 124BS1 car although DMV has it as a 1973. To make things even stranger, and stupid me for not checking I know better, The Actual VIN Reads 124BS1 0062606. But wait the title reads 124BS100626 . I know stop laughing at me. Running the DMV vin via google I found an ad from previous owner and he stated it was a 1756 engine with a 4 SPEED. So back out I went and it feels like it has 5th to me. The build date is 11/72
SO, looking at 124BS1 cars I googled they had small round fender markers, no badge on hood and honeycomb grille with badge. WTH kind of hodge podge do I have?

AND! Found this and looks like the serial numbers kept in sequence my 0062606 would put it in the middle of 73 CS1. So that cant be correct on this list:

I just checked mine, it is registered here as a 1970 (although I believe it was a "1971" model imported to Australia from the USA in the 1990's) and the VIN is: 124BS1 0038029. It has a 1608 engine.

Re: 124BS1 VIN number help - Wanted 72 - 73 Vin #s to compare
Fiat was not like the US manufacturers and things were not always changed at the model year switchover. In Europe there is no such thing as 'model year'. The age of the car is determined from when it was first sold.
You car being such a late BS1, I bet it has the CS style bumpers which attach to the body with big rubber blocks, and stand a few inches away from the body.
On my VIN list the two closest to yours are:
124BS1 0061730 unknown build date, but it was supposed to be a 1973 model and has Cs style bumpers
124CS 0066907 built 03/73, 1952cc engine, 1973 model year.
I am surprised yours is not registered as a 1973. What does the emissions tag under the hood (in front of the radiator) say?
It states which model years the emission controls comply to.
Does yours have the 1608 engine (Engine type 125... on firewall plate)?

Re: 124BS1 VIN number help - Wanted 72 - 73 Vin #s to compare
YES it has 125bc on plate under hood. no emission label. And it is registered as a 1973. Does have to rubber block style front mounts that I also need to know how to take off so I can move the bumpers in. But I have the head removed and the pistons bore measure 83.5 so I guess its not the 1608 anymore. Also has a 2.0fi head on it as you know from the tbelt issue. So it looks like I have one of the last 124BS1 VIN.
Also I wasn't sure if someone changed the grille as it has a slat grille and hood badge. I guess 79 wasn't the only hodge podge years.

I would not worry about it.
> Does have to rubber block style front mounts that I also need to know how to take off so I can move the bumpers in.
13mm nut in the center of the round bumper 'shock', use a long extension. However, I would soak it for days with penetrant, as you risk twisting the stud off.
>Also I wasn't sure if someone changed the grille as it has a slat grille and hood badge.
Hard to say, could be original, that was the time they were changing to the newer style grille.

Re: 124BS1 VIN number help - Wanted 72 - 73 Vin #s to compare
i have 73 spider build date 9-72 vin 124bs10060668 125bc .040 on the tag under the hood, but it had a 1592 in it with no emissions, no air injection nothing, was real strange, but i cannot attest that the engine has not been replaced, but from what? every 1592 i have seen has had emissions, air injection in the head and such.

Re: 124BS1 VIN number help - Wanted 72 - 73 Vin #s to compare
I have a 1973 with the following data:
Build date: 7/73
Door plate model: 124CS
Engine plate model: 124CS
Emissions plate model year: 1973
Engine: 1592cc 132AC040.3
Chassis number: 0070754
Head: 132AC OC 4304781
Intake: 125BC040
Carb: 28/36 DHSA 3
This 1592 has no emission paraphernalia on the head at all. The emissions equipment is limited to an idle solenoid, evaporative canister, and crank case breather recirculation. I believe it is completely stock.
