Using early Volkswagen vent window latches?

Post by hayesbd »

Has anyone adapted these for use?

They look very similar the the Fiat glue-on ones, but obviously can't pop off. I am probably going to try the Dorman universal latches, but thought these might be better.

Regards,
Brian

They would likely work, the question is whether the VW glass and pillar are the same thickness as Fiat's.

Thanks, Mark! You saved me some grief for sure.

I'll just use the Dorman ones. The whistling (of course only on the driver's side!) is driving me nuts and gluing has not been too successful for me.

Can you list the Dorman part number, and does the glass need to be drilled ??

Many thanks

Here is the Dorman universal window latch, part number 76994:

It does not require any drilling - it just clips on, from all I can gather. It's not going to look as good as orignal latches, but right now, with the cold weather requiring top up, window up driving, it will solve the annoying whistle.

I ordered a pair from my local Advance Auto for $9.99. They will be in on Monday, so if I get a chance, I'll post a picture of what they look like installed.

FWIW, tempered glass cannot be drilled, it will shatter. Many have tried...
