Tacho bounce and no power past 5k

Post by Tobi »

Fife years and not a week without a problem to fix
I just noticed that my tacho bounces up and down by a few hundred rpm when I am between 3k and 4k.
The car works normal till I hit 5k rpm and than it just does not accelerate anymore.
I got Marks 285V cams and at 5k it should go like crazy.
The last time I drove it everything was normal and I had tons of power.

I need to get that fixed quick, don't want to carry that over to 2014.
It's an 81Fi and I appreciate all your thoughts.

I had the same problem, it turned out to be the pickup inside the distributor.

Ditto: sounds like the insulation on the pickup wire is starting to fray.

Thanks guys, it was the wire! The plug on the coil side was loose.
