Different konis front & rear

Post by tiaf124 »

I have already revised the front end with yellow Konis in my 124.
For the rear end a rare set of red konis is being offered to me .The rest suspension set-up is in stock form except the rear springs which are thicker than the factory ones.
Do you think is it a good option to choose red Konis for the rear instead of installing yellow Konis too?
Do i have negative effects or unequal perfomance?
How should i adjust the rear ones to work evenly ?
Thanks
Daniel

I wouldn't know for sure with that setup but sometime back I tried a mix of Koni Reds on the front and KYBs back
in a 131 Fiat, it felt odd 2 different comfort zones on the car. The 131 has almost the same rear end suspension
as the 124. I said never again will I mix match like that...

I reckon is the reds are cheep enough give them a shot they are both very good shocks, it you don't like them they are easy to get out and easy to sell.
The circle down my part of town reckon the 124's like a softer back side?? I have my rears (yellow though) on the softest setting and front with a bit of a turn.

You could start soft and work your way up to see how she handles?

So in your opinion 124 might benefit from a softer rear adjustment ( as far as it conserns yellow Konis in both ends)
Using red ones rear which are already softer rate than yellow which are sports , how can i adjust them to co-operate with yellow ones in front .
Yellows are adjusted to full soft

go for it. you can tell everyone you've got orange koni's.

actually, i'm not sure if mixing and matching is a good idea or not. i'm sure the experts will weigh-in soon.

By no means am I an expert but from what I've been told if the rear is too stiff you get too much oversteer, I am led to believe the Reds on their hardest setting is like the yellow's on their softest. May be worth phoning your local Koni supplier just to be sure. The reds(more like an orange actually) I've seen adjust like the yellows.
