starter started showing signs of trouble a few months ago.... got quickly worse over the past week ... local chain parts store did a test and showed, although battery holding charge, cranking amp or something like that was around 150 ... should be 600 ... so new battery was not far off ... went ahead and replaced with new grounding strap (cant believe how bad it looked) and new post clamp for positive side... also bad shape..... however starter was no better and was sure that more localized inspection was needed..... last night (side tech job doing windows migration at morgan stanley ) i found myself in a parking garage well past midnight with a car that would not start.... horrendous noise .. like the starter was rattling or grinding teeth and causing untold damage to who knows what...
deep breathes got my smart phone and sat down for a little research on fiatspiderc.com.... about 4 threads in found out about the red wire spade connection.... pulled ...cleaned ... little squeeze on the connector and reattached .... hands to the sky and praised this site... yelled at top of my lungs ... "that is how s**t gets done" ...... i have and will continue to be grateful for those willing to share knowledge ....
as i understand it .... part of the starter was not getting enough volts to activate another part of the starter and causing what would seem to the unknowing eye or ear a dead starter ..... and sometime in the future if a new starter is needed i hear there is a club for those that have done the job.... not a club i am looking to join anytime soon ..... thanks to everyone.... Matt
