Engine rebuild crank thrust washer question

Post by csi2000s »

I have a 2 litre crank which unfortunately had the thrust washers inserted the wrong way around and they have scored the surface on where they sit on the crank. Does this mean the crank is junk or can the surface be machined and over sized thrust washers be fitted? Or would it easier just to source another crank?

Years ago when I had my Coupe, I inserted the thrust washers backwards. This wore down the crackshaft surface badly. The engine started to knock and you could see the play when the engine ran.

The crank was built up and machined back to spec. It never gave me another problem.
