1983 to 85 & boot hardware
Does anyone know how many spider 2000 pininfarinas were made during the years 1983 to 1985 and also why it is so hard to find the rear boot cover clips for these years.
Re: 1983 to 85 & boot hardware
i'd bet it is nothing more than a question of volume.
Fiat shipped spiders to the US from '69 thru '82. Pininfarina took over in '83-85.5
Pininfarina decided they needed to change the boot hardware. Aftermarket and restoration part manufacturers are after nothing but profit. do the math, 14 years of one style in high volume verses 3 and 1/2 of the other style with substantially reduced volume.....which would you tool up for?
both IAP and Vick sells beige boot covers with hardware for the Pinin, but not the hardware by itself. Your best bet is used.

My boot hardware was toast (cracked plastic) so Bruce had some reproductions in metal, but they were spendy, about $100 with shipping. Vick's & IAP don't have any hardware that fit's the Pininfarina - I called.

The information currently on the net or from Fiat is not exactly accurate on these cars so I started a VIN list keeping track of them and where they were (including the Volumex as it's the same VIN). The last VIN# is not even correct as apparently someone went on vacation and they made a few more- LOL! It looks like they made around 7,000 of them, but that includes the cars that stayed in Europe (Spidereuropa), with only 3,000 going to the USA. So for such a low production car, parts will always be a lot harder to find!

PS - if anyone wants to send me their VIN- I'll add it to my list.

Darsie -
there is a rather massive international spider register here: http://www.fiatspider.de/index.php?opti ... Itemid=236 - it could be a good idea to merge this w/ your list. Ralf de Vree is the owner of this list - you can contact him here: http://www.fiatspider.de/index.php?opti ... Itemid=117
ciao,
Stefan

Re: 1983 to 85 & boot hardware
Yep. Already done! It took a long time and I still don't have all of the '83 (due to lack of time) and Volumex (due to the VIN#'s not recorded on the registry- just Volumex 1-500). I also have the list from some various other nerds like me in our club, who kept track of Ebay sales for years. I also have a few of the part-out's from Mira members. The Ebay cars keep on re-circulating around so it's pretty interesting.

Re: 1983 to 85 & boot hardware
Sorry to highjack the thread.....I have one of the 302 Canadian 81's. My "carfax" shows it was bought in Hamilton ontario in October 81. My speedo's in Km/hr with tiny Mph.
Re: 1983 to 85 & boot hardware
Well that is really interesting. If it's an '81 then they were only made for N.America so they only had USA features. The Pininfarina Spidereuropa had a KM speedo (and side marker lights, etc) but they were made 3 years later. There is one for sale on Ebay right now. If they were indeed different perhaps the German registry should make a separate entry for them?
It would be really interesting to share pictures!

Re: 1983 to 85 & boot hardware
sure... no problem
here's the dash vin
here's the chassis # under the hood
here's a pic of the speedo, I was mistaken... no tiny mpg on it
Other than the speedo, I can't see anything that makes it strictly "Canadian".... not even a beer.
