Bumperless Treatments?

Post by bonsaiwino »

OK guys: removed the front bumper from our '79 Spider & installed round turn signals in the former bumper shock holes. What, if anything, should I do with the open rectangular holes: leave them open, install NACA ducts, screens, etc.? Thanks much guys!

On my (long) list of "to dos" is a pair of ram-air intakes. Driver side one to the air box for the carb (or perhaps just with an outlet pointing in that general direction?!) and the passenger side flowing some air over my headers.

I've got a pair of rectangular headlight bowls that have 4" round exits designed to put ram air intakes into some vehicle or other, I forget which, that are slightly larger than our rectangular holes. Some free flow air filter foam with a small piece of black wire mesh across the front, and it should be job done.

Just an idea anyway!

These are 2 leds inside and they are very bright. A little small but nobody never said anything (was not arrested) :D
I also cover a part of the hole for the bumper because the rubber don't cover all the hole.

When we did this on Jeff's Coupe the hot air fried the coils... so you need to watch where the air ends up after it goes by the headers.
Likely would be best to be ducted to the carbs from both sides.

As ever, wise words Csaba...I'll get thinking again.

John - I'm really liking the clean look. Nice job.

This is what I did. Grittracing (Tony) supplied the lights. I just filled the lines with some fiberglass filler.

I tried getting hold of those from Tony, but he's had some fabrication problems and needed new molds. As of a few weeks ago he hadn't got them through.

Bumperless look with turn signals that I think look period correct, complete with chrome frames - never understood the 'modern upgrade' look for bumperless turn signals.
