Hello everyone,
I have a 78 spider with what I thought were worn out axle shaft bearings . I have all the necessary parts ( seals , 0 rings , bearings , etc, but unfortunately the old bearings have spun on the axle shafts and the local machine shop says they cannot do anything to restore them. I think then I am looking at finding a used pair .
Are all spider drive axles the same or do I have to look for certain years for the splines to fit the differential , or the bearings to fit in the axle housing ?Does anyone have any leads on a pair of these of these babies or any alternative ideas?
Thanks guys....
Sundog.

Re: Rear drive axles.
there are 2 types of axles in a fiat spider. in 1978 there could be either type, one kind uses a snapring to retain the axle and has a "chunk" that comes out the front side, the other uses 4 bolts that holds on the caliper mounting bracket, and that diff has a rear cover that unbolts, that is the easy way to identify. the bearings are the same, the axles are not
