external mirror question

on my 1975 the external mirror is mounted on the driver side door. is the mirror held on with sheet metal screws or machine screws and nuts on the inside of the door? i need to replace the mirror and would liek to know if i have to take the door panel off too. if so, how difficult a job is removing the door panel?

On my '76 - sheet metal self tapping screws, with straight on and off, no nuts on the inside.
