Air filter cover question?
By rotating the air filter cover, it looks there are two positions it can be in to line up the three holes with the screw posts. In one position it seems a lot more air would flow into the filter. In the other, much less. Which position should be used?

Re: Air filter cover question?
Yes with the 3 screws there are 3 positions :
E closes hot air and opens fresh one
I closes fresh air and opens hot one
third one would open both hot and fresh ?
for springs and autumn maybe ?

Re: Air filter cover question?
Unless you drive in really cold weather install the cover so the inlet that points forward (cold air). Hot air from the exhaust manifold would degrade performance and increase the chance of pre-ignition.

Re: Air filter cover question?
Just switched mine from E (Summer) to I (Winter) position. Of course it's a somewhat moot point, since I've changed exhaust manifolds and the metal hose running between the manifold and the air cleaner is no longer in place. Either way, I've not experienced carburetor icing, which is one of the things this adjustment is intended to address.

Re: Air filter cover question?
If you drive in foggy, humid weather, tween 30 and 45 deg F, you need it in the winter position. Anytime there is a lot of moisture in the air, it will ice inside the carb. It does not have to be very cold. Below freezing the air holds very little moisture.
