How many Quarts?

Post by v6spider »

I am gearing up to paint my spider. Most of the body work is done. I am curious as to how many it will take to paint it? I am using a base coat/ clear coat system by house of kolor..the color is organic green as a kandy base coat... I may use a kandy clear as well...

Thanks!

Alot depends on how much you are painting. you are going door jams and sill, underside of trunk and hood. what does your prep surface look like. All one color of primer everywhere with no variation? Finally, to what level of polish are you going for. If you are going for a "smooth as a baby's behind" with no orange peel at all, then you need an extra thick coat of clear. The cost of a gallon is just slightly more than 3 quarts.

Well as close to perfection as I can...lol off course it is me that is painting it... so for full coverage on the base coat sounds like three quarts..for the clear I'll need a gallon...tis getting expensive...

I bought 2 liters for my car and had a bit left for touch-ups. That was for the exterior for the second time as the first was a deplorable job. I did not spray the inside the second time. I think There was 3.8 Liters the first go around for inside the engine, trunk and outside and again some left over.

Don't skimp on the paint. Whether urethane single stage or base coat -clear coat, buy a gallon. And if doing base/clear another half gallon or so of clear depending on how may coats of clear you want. If you plan on color sanding any at all, you want enough material so you don't bust through to the primer or color below.

3 quarts is plenty.. 4 (gallon) if you doing door jams. 5 if your taking out the interior and painting the inside. Gallon of clear should be plenty since you only clear the exterior.

I usually buy a gallon of color and a gallon of clear. I like having some of the exact paint available for touch up later. If you have multiple containers, ( two or three quarts), of color, mix them all together to make sure they all match.
Some colors cover better that others, you can use a sealer that is tinted to a close color to improve coverage.
