Smiles and smiles all around. Finally took the car out for its first spin. Engine purrs like a wild cat (thanks BEEK), no smoke from the exhaust. Had to put those darned badly upholstered seats in for the ride ( riding is more important than grumbling about the seats) bright headlights ( thanks Mark for the upgraded alt) heated seats feel good on the aging back, thanks to AR for parts too numerous to count (new dash is really sweet) new top folded nicely down, wind blowing the fuzz I have left as hair. Wife smiling in being able to wear her new hat for a ride in the car and less time in the garage for me (that's what she thinks anyway). All I can say is man it was good!! Son is glad I don't want to "borrow" his car
Still need to sort out some electrical. Gas gauge still doesn't work despite new sender ( works when wires are individually grounded) so I suspect I need to run a new ground. Oil gauge wanders un related to engine speed (wiring suspect despite new sender). Temp hangs at 188, but the fan that originally cycled like it should no longer comes on. Damned wiring , and last, the courtesy light doesn't function like before. Darned owner fiddling with the wires
Did I mention how nice it was to drive the car

Good stuff. It is an odd thing that driving a car can put such a smile on ones face. I don't question it when I'm grinning ear to ear.
Buon giro a tutti! - enjoy the ride!

Your radiator cooling fan should not cycle on until about 195 degrees.

Re: The first 20 miles - ;)
John, I must have knocked a wire loose when I put the fuse box back up. The fan wasn't coming on at all. Fixed it at lunch time today. Also fixed the gas gauge. Ended up running an independent ground from one of the small bolts on the sender to tank connection back to the frame. Good thing, I was almost out of gas. Still need to fix the other stuff, but the smile is getting bigger
