crank seal replacement
crank seal replacement
Hello,im doing a timing belt replacement on 2000 1982 model, I want to replace the front seals while in there. Question when I replace front crank seal, can the housing be taken off without dropping the oil pan? Or does the housing just slide off without having to deal with oil pan/seal? Can seal be replaced without taking housing off?

Re: crank seal replacement
The concern is when you pull the seal housing, the oil pan seal might tear. You'd have to remove the few pan bolts regardless. Others have been careful and been successful. Do you have a real fine tool of some sort to break the seal between the gasket and the housing?

Re: crank seal replacement
I took my housing off last year when doing the t belt. I was very careful not to tear the pan gasket while removing the housing. After cleaning everything up and replacing the seal, I dried off the pan gasket with paper towels and reinstalled the housing. No leaks so far. Sure made changing the seal easier and allowed me to clean all the gunk off of it.
