Recent road trip

Post by hayesbd »

Hi, all!

It's been a while since I've been here (been extremely busy with work). I recently had to travel for work and took the spider instead of renting. It was around 500 miles and everything worked fine; 3 hours of rain and the wipers were fine! I even got 34 mpg on the freeway, cruising at 70mph (indicated). I was next to a new Fiat 500 for several miles on I-75 in Detroit - he seemed to be hovering slightly behind, probably either marveling at its historic sibling in front or laughing at the rough shape!

I did find that driving with the top down for 3 hours eventually makes you a bit wobbly. It's either the beating you take from the noise and wind or maybe that combined with some carbon monoxide?

One of the wind blockers(I have a Brady Breeze-Beater) makes a tremendous difference in the buffeting with the top down.I also find that driving a convertible, like riding a motorcycle long distance, tends to wear you out ! I avoid highway driving as much as I can.

Ear plugs and the windows up on the highway helps. So does water and handkerchief for freshening up. Amazing how much grime I get on my face.

Nice, I'm sure the buffeting via the seat is tiresome as well. Gotta love the drive though

I did 700 miles with mine last weekend with a wind blocker and ear plugs. At the end of the second day I was beat. What with the wind and the heat. I have did more when it was cooler without the wind blocker and felt better.

Craig I have been thinking about going. On my trip to Indiana my left side cam box gasket gave out and I was losing a quart of oil per 100 miles. I will have to fix that before I do any more long drives. It has been leaking some and I was going to wait till winter to do it. I have been real busy since I did the drive. I think I can get to it this weekend.
