steering wheel horn button supposed to look this way?

I've never seen one of these wheels before, so I don't know if this horn button has become cloudy and semi-opaque with age, or if this is the way it's supposed to look. Can anyone tell me?

It is supposed to be glossy. it can be brought back to life using a lens polish

That'll polish up real good. Your red is still bright, most I've seen have washed out color.
