Car Show FIAT comments

Post by TX82FIAT »

I post this to get some thoughts from the group. This past Saturday I drove a little over an hour up the road to Kerrville Texas the home of Johnny Manziel last years heisman winner for a car show. The event was well done and for the VW guys there were a couple bugs that had anywhere from $25K to $40K invested in them. A couple hunded cars in all with about 15 imports. For the most part a really nice show with great people. A large number of guys stopped by and talked about the FIATS they had owned in the 60's and 70's.

As my youngest son and i were debating the merits of hanging out for the award cerimony along with the possability of winning a door price we had a FIAT heckler in the crowd. No class! started off with the familiar "Do you know what FIAT stands for." I just smiled and let him go on his rant. Funny thing is that the guy was only about 35 years old. He crossed a line when he started insulting my son's Columbus day shirt with the American and Italian flags. C'mon man, it's July 4th weekend. Still, I smiled as i noticed the group of people he was sitting with feeling very uneasy and wanting some separation from this guy. They announced the Spider had won third place in the imports and we accepted the award to a loud cheer from the crowd. Odd, they seemed to cheer a little louder for our third place having been witness to the hecklers idiocy.

As we were walking past the guy he threw out his last comment for the day. He said, "now I've seen everything, a greezy dego wins an award with a FIAT. As a result, for the firt time in over 30 years I had the urge to smack the crap out of another person. As I turned and took a step towards this moron I noticed he was now sitting alone as the people next to him had moved away. A rather large man was now yelling back at the man telling him to shut his mouth and a very nice older lady had put her hand on my shoulder and said "Thanks for coming out today. My husband loved FIATS." I smiled, turned back to the car and drove off. A life lesson learned for my son and overall a nice day in a nice town.
Buon giro a tutti! - enjoy the ride!

Nicely done sir! Always better to rise above people who simply don't have sufficient intelligence and integrity to be worth the time of abusing :)

I hit Cars and Coffee in Houston on Saturday am. Thoroughly nice bunch of people - although many confused punters who (as I've got custom hood and trunk emblems) were left moderately confused as to what breed the wee beastie was. "It's cute, but WHAT is it?". Good to see two other spiders there ... :)

I agree...nicely done. It was good to show your son you've got nothing to prove, while that guy proved he's an idiot.

Way to go! I had a similar experience some years ago at the 1993 Auto Italia held annually in Canberra, Australia.
My Fiat placed first in it's category when some fool who also had his car entered started saying stupid remarks to me when I went back into the crowd. I does take control not to lose it but I tell ya it's worth it.
Sometimes when I look at the trophy sitting on my bookcase it reminds me of that guy, which usually leads to a chuckle  .

Surely as it was Canberra no one recognized it as it wasn't a) Ford, b) Holden or c) Ford?
