Question about starting and ground ring gear

Post by hamlet »

My ring gear is worn and it stops in the area where it is worn about half the time and the starter won't engage it. To deal with this, I've been putting it in fifth and pushing it a two or three feet, and that usually gets the ring gear to a non-worn spot that the starter will engage. Is this bad for the engine/car?

no, just don't push it backwards with the trans in a forward gear

Interesting -- what would happen in that case?
