The Dragon Hill Climb and a Lancia Delta rally car!

Post by ga.spyder »

I spent the day today at the SCCA Dragon tamer Hill Climb, in nearby Robbinsville NC. Beautiful day in the midst of the gorgeous Kilmer Nat'l Forest. This area is off Tail of the Dragon. The road was completely shut down and shuttle bus took us up and down the mountain. My main reason for going was to see a World Champ Lancia Delta Integrale rally car run the course. And,OMG it was fast!! The sound of it coming up the hill was amazing!!! I spent quite a while with the owner and his chief mechanic. The owner,Giovanni drove for Team Lancia in the 90's.He is an Italian native. The Lancia museum sold him the car, under protest from many who said it was a National treasure and shouldn't leave Italy. This car is the real deal.It is the car that won the World Championship. And still wears its Martini livery!! He has spent the last year sourcing parts to get it in as raced condition. This was its first big outing.Next year it will go to Targa Newfoundland.Awesome day!! I will get some pictures up soon.
On a side note, the SCCA inspectors looked over my Mi...er...Mazda ,two seat roadster(I didn't say it Jay!) I need to make a few tweaks and I am accepted to race the next SCCA hillclimb event.Yeah, baby!!!!

I will try to get the pics up.My camera got left behind,so my wife took pics with her phone.I need to figure out how to get them to photobucket  The car is awesome, and the sound was even better. When he got the car it had been thru a couple owners before Lancia gained possession.A lot of things had been changed, and altered.According to him,it is now the same as when he raced it in the WRC.

Craig,

What a great day. I'da loved to see the Lanca blasting up the hill.

Forgot your camera!? WTF. Some reporter you turned out to be.

Next year you better have a GoPro mounted on the roll bar of that other two seater of yours. We want video.

Here's the Lancia:

Some other brand of two seat roadster:

I Like Z cars:

You can right click on the pictures to see them correctly. Can't figure out how to fit photo bucket pictures on this board. Anybody know? And far as I can tell Flickr is all changed up. Like they want to force you there.

This is a little better, but they sure don't make it easy.

Edit - Resize - 600 width seems about right. What ever happened to small medium and large?

Integrales are great, but if you think the Integrale is fast, wait until you see a Delta S4 in person. It doesn't accelerate, it warps.

I'd rather not say.

Craig I just googled "dragon Hill Climb 2013" and got a bunch of facebook hits. Take a look.

Yeah that Z has a pretty mean look, but chevy motors in old sports cars isn't my cup a tea. Seems to me more fun to make them go using what they came with. But hey, not my money, not my car.

It's still possible to find interesting competition Integrales; the '95 Acropolis winner sold about a week ago for €78,316

I think racing that "other" car is a good idea that way no one sheds a tear if you wreck and you could just say you did it out of spite?
