Horn button question

Post by georgeramos »

This is a crazy one but my horn button seems to be deteriorating before my eyes. I remember buying a relatively crack free one and vaguely even remember replacing the original one that came with the car but now this one has a million little fractures inside. Is the plastic just old enough to crack from sun exposure?

Has anyone else experienced this?

I've never seen the plastic deteriorate, but the color on the 1979+ models is simply painted on the reverse side of the horn button. I have seen the paint crack and flake off making it look faded and cracked. The horn button can be disassembled and repainted from the reverse side to look new again. Earlier models have a different design on the horn button. What year is your car?

They're different. If I remember right, they're foiled on the reverse side. It sounds like it is just deteriorating from age.
