Car cover(s)

Post by FiatJim »

Greetings to all,

I need to buy a new car cover for my '73 spider. While the car is stored indoors when at home, I want to cover it when we are out and about (keep them dang birds from cr__$#ing! on it) What would be a very good cover to choose?

I like my Noah I bought 6 years ago. Recently washed it for the 3rd time with no issues.

Washed it? I've never washed a cover before, just used a very soft bristle brush and rinsed it off. How did you wash yours?

Put it in the wife's (our) washing machine and set on extra large. Perhaps a 1/4 cup liquid soap with cold water and then a low dry setting for about 20 minutes. came out damp and then let dry on the car.
I've a custom cut sawmill so there can be a bit of dust floating about and the cover can get too dusty.

I like that idea Trey, waterproof outside and a fleece liner would be great. The bird crap would wash off easy but the car gets the soft touch.
Great price if the quality is there.

Well, I can tell you what NOT to buy. I received my Ebay special today and will be returning it. The material and "fleece backing" reminds me of one of those plaid picnic table cloths. Seems about as durable and breathable too. :?

I just ordered a custom fit cover from AutoSport(IAP ownes them). The price was the same as IAP, $177 for the Noah, but they offer 10% off if you sign up on their mailing list. But, it gets even better... I signed up yesterday and today they sent me a coupon for up to 25% off if you spend $250, so I ordered a set of custom made floor mats too and saved $65.00 it came to $216 for the custom fit cover, custom mats and shipping. :D

I received my custom cover and floor mats today from Autosport. I haven't got to try it in the rain yet, but it fits soooo much nicer than the universal Budge cover that it replaced. It is thicker and softer inside too. Fits tight so the wind doesn't blow it around and it doesn't hang on the ground like the universal one hat I had.

Here's the Noah cover that I purchased from Autosport. It actually fits and doesn't blow off or hang on the ground like the universal one did.

I use the Noah too and am happy with it. It will stretch out a little over time, but it fits well and allows the car to breathe. I find mine gets a little dirty and moldy (it sits partially under the trees in my driveway) but it will clean up ok in the washer, with a small amount of "simple green" detergent. They include a warning in the packaging about not using regular strong detergents on it.
