Do cars have souls?

Post by georgeramos »

When you're driving your Spider with loved one(s) along it's easy-ish to hold a conversation and to notice the dappled sunlight, the breeze, the faint scent of oil, fuel and coolant but on some level it's about the car isnt it? Its like the car wants you to be there so youre there. The sounds and shimmies of the car become a part of you. I for one am glad to be a part of this community and to get to know you all and your cars.

Sometimes I think about the folks who built the cars and what they thought about these beautiful machines they were creating.

Stop me before I mist up.

Have a great weekend friends.

Funny you should mention that. I've been driving for 37 years now, owned a car for 36 of them and it seems whenever I wash and vacume my car and drive it soon after, it handles, accelerates and behaves like you want it to. Just saying... perhaps it's saying thank you....

Many years ago i had a small fiberglass shop. It was in a small strip mall with a little house in the middle. Out front of the house sat a very nice Simca 1204 that the owner used as a dog leash post (had the meanest dog known to man....and no, it wasnt a chihuahua  ). She was a very even keeled girl except when it came to the Simca, which she hated with every bone in her body. She would hire someone to get it running but within 2 weeks was dead in the water again, which made her hate it all the more. So I finally convinced her to sell the car to me. Think i paid like $125. Spent 3 hours doing oil, tune, and carb. That car ran like a dream and turned into a reliable daily driver for a few years before the vaccuum advance broke off the plastic float bowl and lit the car on fire. You can draw your own conclusions

Interesting story about the Simca. My dad purchased a '71 1204 for my older sister to drive and it worked fairly well until one day the differential gears let go. Dad and I tore it all apart, replaced the broken parts, freshened up the engine with new rings and bearings and painted it bright orange. I drove it in high school for a few years and have some fond and some humorous memories of that car. No power whatsoever and weak brakes, but handled well and got 40mpg on the highway.
