Help identify engine bay stuff

Post by juvius »

I need help with identifying a few things in my engine bay. I have a 71 spider and i'm putting a 2ltr engine in it with an 1800 head and intake. I'm trying to figure out what to keep and what to swap out with the 79 engine bay stuff. I put a labeled picture below so help me identify. I'm going crazy reading through both manuals trying to compare. It took me a while, but so far I have found out what the external voltage regulator was and pulled it out since i'm using an alternator from a later car.

the pic below seems to have some info cut off. here's the link to the full picture: http://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu19 ... 6d4225.jpg

A. Does this hood switch run a light or something else?
B. I have no clue what it is.
C. What's this relay for?
D. What's this relay for?
E. What's this?
F. I know what these are, but to use the setup out of the 79, is it just a matter of wire splicing?
G. Not sure.

i think:
A is the fast idle push button switch?
B is the weber electro-valve that controls fast idle vacuum?
C is the ignition light relay?
D is the cooling fan relay?
E is switch power to the horns air compressor?
and... F was just a question....

turns out G is a light....

can anyone verify?

thanks...

i don't think i'm right at all on B. the rubber line connects to a steel line and then goes under the car following the brake lines.

I have the factory service manual. This Friday when I am at the other shop I will look the stuff up and send some pictures or scans of the pages dealing with these items. Can you wait till then?

I have the book back now. What is your email. I will send you pictures of the pages that might tell you.

Posting to the internet is too time consuming right now.

email is dhail@neo.rr.com

I also found something else i don't know where it goes. it's a steel line that comes from under the car out of the transmission area and goes to the right side of the engine....

thanks

If you swap your 1971 engine with a 2L, you can remove all A,B,C,D,E.
But it would be wise to install relays for engine fan, horn, lights, starter.

F is the ignition coil, and you will need one.

what you need is the wiring diagram for a 71, that you can download from artigue.com which, unfortunately, does not seem to work at the moment.
These diagrams will tell you exactly what is what, following the wires.
Then you will need another diagram to decide how you will build your replacement harness.

Hope it helps.

I take it to the printing shop and have them scan it as large as they can, works great
