Opening doors
Okay, I just gotta ask...
These cars have the world's most strange inside door handles that are not exactly the most ergonomic designs out there. I find that just opening the doors from the inside is an excercise in awkwardness. So just exactly how are we supposed to open these with a characteristic Italian flair? I feel more like Inspector Clouseau than Fabio! So far, the least awkward method has been to lift up with my left hand whilst pushing the door open with my right. Maybe mine are unusually hard to budge, requiring two hands. Anyone else have this problem?

Re: Opening doors
I give a shove with my left shoulder after pulling up the handle. They are generally tight, that is for sure.

Re: Opening doors
Everyone that gets the pleasure to ride with me has a hard time getting out. It seems that they can never remember how to open the door. Even my wife and she is the one who rides the most. But who needs passengers anyway, all it is is extra weight.

Actually the thumb of the right hand goes on the armrest and fingers under the latch and then squeeze. Easy peezy

Re: Opening doors
It is funny.... The armresst on my X1/9s were very functional and fit well, I used them as armrests all the time. But the armrests on the Spider are unuseable as armrests, the geometry is all wrong. They are just there as a backup for the door handle to pinch against!

You would think you should reach through the armrest and pull the handle up with your left hand. Except my fingers do not fit between the handle and door. I actually bought another set and cut the handle to make it thinner. It works a bit better, but still awkward. I tried to find another handle that would fit, but no luck. I am wondering if redesigning the handle would help. I am still working on this.

Re: Opening doors
The way I open the door is to take my left hand (closest to door) place the palm against the side of the arm rest with my thumb pointed down. This lets you curl your fingers around the lever, pull up gently and the door is open.

Re: Opening doors
Now you got me thinking....I'm headed out to my car to see how I open the door....now I'm back. To open the driver's door, I reach across with my right hand and squeeze the way AJ81Spider shows in the picture except my thumb is on the arm rest and my fingers on the door actuator. I tried the left hand method an it works but is more awkward to me.

Re: Opening doors
After intentionally waiting a minute to watch things unfold, I reach over and let the passenger out. If in drivers seat I reach right hand over with thumb on top of armrest and fingers on door handle sqeeze and push. Door open easily. I do enjoy watching my kids struggle to get out every time. Especially the know it all 16 year old.
My 9 year old thinks the window crankers are the coolest feature on the car.
