Sounds like what I did. I cut a 4 inch hole in the engine bay right next to the cone air filter. Since I removed the front bumper, I connected a 4 inch alum hose from the turn signal wire hole to this hole in the engine bay. I am thinking about doing the same to the other side. I guess the more fresh air I can get into the engine bay, the better.

Did you buy the 2.5 inch exhaust, of have it made?

I had the 2.25 exhaust made by a local shop, cat back. Cost me a whopping 150 with stainless steel tip and yes that included a new muffler.
