Torque Specs for CamBox

Post by gionetz »

Hello, I just changed a leaky cambox gasket, I torqued the bolts to 14lbs and, although I havent let it get hot yet, it "seems" that it might be leaking a tiny bit in a couple different spots, the two "BAD" ones seems to be okay. Is it okay to go back and put a little "extra" on them? I came across some notes that say 14-16lbs, you think it would be okay to go a "little" extra? or def stop at 16? - or should 14 be enough? Thnk you!!!!!

The typical cam box gaskets are made of a thermostetting material, and will seal up better after a few heat cycles. Always go with what the design engineers specified for torque values. The early heads used studs and nuts to hold down the cam boxes, the later design used bolts that screwed into the head. The early design with studs and nuts can handle a bit more torque than specified.
