? servo failiure ?

Post by geoff »

Hi all, sorry if this has been covered many times already but after overhalling all four wheel brakes I am still not satisfied.
Pedal travel seems fine but also feels dead and even pressing very hard, the stopping distance is terrible.
I wonder if the servo has died - or if I have caused an air lock in it when overhauling the brakes.
I switched off the engine whilst rolling at aout 50mph and tried the brakes and they seemed just the same as with the engine running. Could this point to the servo?
thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Sounds like the booster or a malfunction with the vacuum line leading in that does not allow your foot pressure to be intensified. Do you hear any hissing? Get an assistant to apply brakes while you have your ear close to the booster. In theory, the pedal should travel further to the floor then it did when the brakes were functioing properly if you have a leak. You might also have some air in the lines like a pocket of air in the master cylinder. When redoing the brakes did you adjust the accorn nut.

It took me three months to get the brakes right when I put all new hard lines in. PITA, stick with it.
Buon giro a tutti! - enjoy the ride!

A quick test for a good booster is to put your foot hard on the brake then start the car and the pedal should move down slightly.
