Seats

Post by fiatfanatic »

I know this has been discussed many times, but does anyone have the definitive answer on what seats fit our cars?
Thanks for the help!

The one seat I found fits every time is the seat out of a Fiat Spider...works every time! I've not heard of a seat that will fit without some form of modification to the seat rails.

Mark has sold a set from I think a porsche 914 that I've seen installed. They looked really good, and the guy (Earnesto I think his name is) said they went right in.
Check with Mark to see if I have the car right.

Those 914 seats were pretty... nice proportions for the spider interior.

I thought they were a little bit too thin for my taste, but they did fit well.

Dave:

I had the usual bent seat backs on my spider seats. I replaced them with seats from a Pontiac Fiero I got for $25 for the pair from a junk yard. It . equired minor and easy modifications to the seat rails to fit but they are awesome and well worth the effort. They are very stylish, well proportioned for a Spider and very Italian looking. I recovered the seats in leather from a place that custom makes leather upholstery for the Pontiac Fiero seats and the upholstery kit also had fresh seat pads and padding etc so the seats feel and look like brand new. A great feature of the seats is that they have headrest speakers (I installed new speakers when I re-upholstered). It is aewsome to have tunes and be able to hear them without effort with the top down cruising down the road at any speed. If you would like to see how they look, pictures of my Spider are on Fiatcenter.com. From that page click on Photo Galleries, then click on Gallery One. My car, Charlotte is the ivory spider in the first two thumbnails. Hope this helps. I know some folks are sticklers for originality and genrally speaking I don;t like mods, but the spider seats are notoriously weak and I think not particularly stylish, so this is a great alternative. Let me know if you are interested I can provide some details.

Alan.

Alan, I'm guessing that you mean't Charlotte is on http://www.spidercenter.com, rather than fiatcenter.com. Looks very nice. I have a pair of Fiero seats I've been reupholstering in leather, and although I've never had them installed in anything (yet), I enjoy just sitting in them (in he garage :) and listening to the speaker system! Did you add the fiat runners to the bottom of the fiero seats or use the fiero runners somehow? They don't tip as far forward do they? Is that a problem for access to the "back seat"?

Mark,
Do you have any picture of how you mounted the prelude seats? I happen to have a pair that we were going to put in but my initial reconnaissance indicated they were too wide at the bottom.

In other news i removed the dead mouse from under the passenger seat. Initially i was going to replace it with a new or reconditioned mouse but decided to leave it out as it should cut down on weight.

the mouse was a factory option
I don't have any pics of the seat mounts. I merely made a flat piece that bolted to the seat, then bolted to the rail. I didn't make the seat adjustable because no one else drives it.

Ahhh. Thanks. Not really an option as my son is already taller than me and out growing me at an exponential rate. In the last 14+ years he has grown 5'10'' and i've shrunk nearly an inch. At this rate he'll be 11 foot tall by the time hes thirty, and ill be... well... not...

Anyway, yeah, so adjustable seats... I'll keep my eyes open at the junk yard for Fiero seats but they're becoming pretty thin on the ground.

Tomorrow ill be checking the floor under the other seat. I'm hoping the drivers side mouse is in better condition.
