iPhone app to verify MPH
I don't have a smartphone, or even a cell phone (yes, I prefer living in the stone age, or at least circa 1981 - best year for the Spider ), so I don't even know where to look, but my wife does have an iPhone. I've heard there are apps that you can use to check / verify MPH. I'd like to know how accurate (or inaccurate) my speedometer and odometer is. Is there an app in particular that is better than the others? Any to recommend?

Re: iPhone app to verify MPH
I looked for a stationary radar speed check station along the roadside and gauged mine by that. Mine is a consistent 2 mph under the speed limit and any speed.

There's an easy way to check this using Stone Age equipment. Find a highway with mile markers that you can maintain a constant 60 mph. Use a watch with a second hand and time yourself. It should take exactly a minute.
Instead of using a smart phone, just be smart yourself and use math.

App store and search for speedometer. If it's anything like the android phone there a bunch for free.
Or look for one of those radar signs that shows you the speed you're going. Drive by that a few times. I don't knowif tthat's stone age enough, but it's anticellphone, haha

Re: iPhone app to verify MPH
There are several available for free for the iPhone. I tested a couple ad they both had the same results.
My 81 with 195/60/14s is roughly 5 mph off, so 60 is 55.
Below is a R&T article for the 81 turbo that say it's 56.5 at 60 with 185/60/14s.

Yep, my 80 is consistently about 10% low as well, so about 55 when it says 60.

Re: iPhone app to verify MPH
Hm, I noticed in that article that 30mph is actually 30. So don't start your self adjusted speed until higher speeds.
Just wanted to point that out for you guys.

On the MS Shadow Dash application for smart phones there is a cool screen that gives you MPH , lattitude, longitude, altitude, turn force, accel force, x and Y force. It works off your phones GPS system.

It may be too cool. Need to keep my eyes on the road and not try to read what the phone is saying as you drive down the street, pull a hard turn... "Keep your eyes on the road and your hands upon the wheel"

Re: iPhone app to verify MPH
The old school way to do it is the mile marker way and a watch with a second hand. There are 3600 seconds in an hour, so if you drive 60 mph it will take 60 seconds between markers, thus 60 mph. If it takes, say 63 seconds, simply divide 3600 by 63 and you get 57 mph. Or 55 seconds, 63 mph and so on and so on. Just don't drive off the road looking at your watch.
