Sorry if this has been addressed. I see that Bayless has a heater valve that fits like original in the older 124's, but it's quite expensive. And I understand the valves readily available are X 1/9's. I read in one of the Mirafiori blogs that the later 124's used that valve as standard, and so either the tubes are different or the both the tubes and core are different. If I wanted to replace the core and valve, could an '83-'85 spider core and/or pipes be used, or won't that fit?
--And will and X 1/9 core fit?
Thanks

Re: heater core(s)
I am in the process of putting my heater back together in my ' 81. My valve was plugged. I bought the replacement valve from AutoRicambi, also their short pipe (bent to fit and work with the valve).
My core is back in and the fan box all re-assembled. I have dry fitted the new, short and old, long pipes. Looks like it will all go back together well. The cable works with the new valve with out modifications.
http://www.autoricambi.us/product/HE6-4 ... ore---New/ The description says '72 and earlier cars need some modifications.

Well, not so fast
One of the bolts for the short pipe was blocked by the "dog ear" of the heater box. I had mounted the new valve with a new gasket and sealant. Not wanting to do that over, I cut the dog ear off using a dremmel cut off blade from the bottom and from the top with a saber saw. Easier to do it before mounting the valve. Pictures of the process:

Yes, I put the tube on the valve before bolting the valve to the core.

Great pictures with the mirror!! In fact, mine is a '72, which is why I was wondering what my options were. THANKS SO MUCH!

Re: heater core(s)
I'm having serious trouble getting the old valve off of the core, it seems to be sealed pretty tight. Did you run into the same thing when removing yours? Or do you have any tips for getting it off? The whole core moves with the valve when I try to move it. Also do you have any pics of the finished assembly? I have a sensor on the old one but I am not sure how to deal with it as the new valve doesn't have one. Thank you.

Re: heater core(s)
The nuts backed off and the valve came off without a problem. Let me back up.... I was trying to force the valve when i broke it off, leaving a short piece of tube still attached to the core That removed easily. Upon seeing that the stub was completely plugged, i decided to drop the core to see if it was still good. The core simply press fits up into that plastic box with some foam to make it snug. Search my posts...i believe i detailed the job of dropping the core. Not hard to do.pwilliam wrote:I'm having serious trouble getting the old valve off of the core, it seems to be sealed pretty tight. Did you run into the same thing when removing yours?
