Carb Issue: Flooding

Ok, here's another question for all of you. I'm still working on the '71 Coupe I bought a few months ago. It hasn't been registered since 1987, so I'm very proud that I've got it running at all. There's still lots of work to do, but I'm tackling one problem at a time.

I've driven it about 10 miles total now, and have the same problem twice. It runs nicely, but when I stop (at a stop sign or my driveway), it quits. It acts like it's flooded. Yesterday, I cranked and cranked and it wouldn't start. Pushed it off the road into a parking lot and tried again and it fired up. Drove the remaining block home without incident.

Here are my questions:

1. What might be the cause of this? I'm thinking something in the carb. Sticking float? Do you think I should put rebuilding the carb near the top of my to do list?
2. Can anyone identify what carb I have? I can't find the numbers stamped on it anywhere. I've included a picture below, but there are more here: http://lemonsgvn.wikispaces.com

Using information from the web, I have verified that the engine block is definitely a 1608, but the cylinder head is from a 1756 engine. Is that unusual?

I know I'm going to have lots more questions about this carb. There are several plugged hoses coming out of it. One broken hose that was plugged, but broke off. All sorts of interesting thing to sort out.

If the car has been sitting that long you definitely want to take apart and clean out the carb.

after sitting that long, the carb will be full of varnish and possibly rust from the tank. The entire fuel system needs to be looked at

I fixed the link. I figured the carb would need rebuilding. Any idea what model carb it is?

Stamped on the base of the carb , on the head side, is a flat spot with the carb type. At least that's where mine is.
