Problem with my our Lemons racer

Post by ga.spyder »

We are having a issue with our racer, and a race is a week away!! The car is a 76,but we have just put another motor in.I am 6 hours each way from the car,but have made several trips to do the motor swap,etc..The motor is a 2 litre block, witha 1800 head that was built by BEEK.The head is awesome, thanks Beek!!Big valves, stock cams, dual IDF's ported to match the head, headers, electric fuel pump,etc... Sptcoupe gave us a tune for our carbs, thanks Jeff!
Details are a bit sketchy and I am on my way to Amelia Island Concourse, which isnt anywhere near the car.The car starts and idles perfectly.I was sent a video, engine sounds good. However, when under load and driving it has no power.Apparently no pickup.Any ideas where to look.I know this is vague, but again,I am nowhere near the car.I know this should have been worked out months ago,but the car owner had a serious medical problem, and couldnt really work on it.Any ideas will be appreciated.I am trying to direct the repair from 300 miles away.

what ignition are you using? Does it just flatten out or misfire?

From the description I got,it just flattens out.The ignition is a Crane Fireball setup.I am trying to help from a distance..it sucks. No way I can get to the car this week.

Thanks Beek,I think it is the cam timing. They reset it today, and feel like it is fine.It needs to be driven to be sure.Lou isnt recovered enough to drive ,so one of my teammates is headed there tomorrow.Fingers crossed!!

Sounds like cam timing. If you can punch in the ignition timing curve on your Crane, I would use this one, which comes from a 124 rally, 1.8L, with twin 44 IDFs. But it should work well with your motor and the carb jetting as well. This nis what I have on the coupe now and it is great:

1000 rpm - 10
1250 rpm - 14
1500 rpm - 18
1750 rpm - 21
2000 rpm - 23
2250 rpm - 25
2500 rpm - 27
2750 rpm - 29
3000 rpm - 31
3250 rpm - 33
3500 rpm - 35
3750 on - 36

Thanks Jeff, they have the basic cam timing set and all seems well.I am going to meet the car at the track on Thursday and use your numbers to set the total advance and also the carb jetting you suggested. As carbs go...I am a mediocre f.i. guy!!! Could be interesting. We have a practice day on Friday,to try and sort it all out Thanks again, everybody, for all the help!
