Sure it can. If it stays on topic (Fiat) nothing could be simpler really.
Trouble seems to be in peoples ideas or thoughts as to what is appropriate when off topic. 340 million in the States, 34 mil in Canada and lord knows how many million in Europe,and Oz (sorry), and we all have different tolerances in politics, religon, and morals.
I'm sure there are forums out there that will accomodate those topics, but this one is trying to be a forum on Fiats. I like the off topic threds,for example when a member might need help in viewing a spider they are interested in purchasing or a member is travelling, it's nice to see if anyone is about to share some instalation fluid or a chat.. The girl pics are for the most part fine, but I'd like to see the Fiat theme somehow in the off topics.(more or less)
I'd like to see disagreements go to the PM's and not a pissing match on the forum.
Just my opinion as I'm sure there are plenty more out there.
I believe Mark is doing his best to moderate this forum to keep it on topic. It is not his site and the owner I suspect could yank it if it gets too raunchy or peoples opinions get too caustic.

I think this is all just culturally relative. I spent many summers in Italy as a kid and teen where nudity and sexuality really isn't a big deal. There is frontal nudity in prime time Suntan lotion commercials for example. European society is much more liberal than our North American Standards (I'm born and raised in Canada where they banned Howard Stern).

That being said lets respect our difference and agree that for the most part this is an American website so we should respect their culture just like we would not walk into a mall in Dubai with short pants.

I poked into this thred a couple times and certainly repect that people have different opinions about sexuality. I offer a huge word of caution when if comes to respect and cultural relevance.

As a man I have a partially blocked view into womens rights. However, I do think that there is a line between right and wrong that needs to be drawn on some issues. That line should not be drawn based on what is culturally relative alone but must have some absolutes. I would encourage everyone to consider just what "culturally relative" defines and where that term will be in 20 years all over the world.

For example:

Wearing shorts in a mall in Dubai. check
A partially exposed women on a website in the USA. check
A 14 year old girl attacked for openly pursuing education. check
hatred of large groups of people based on ethnic, religious, of socio economic factors such as Hitler in WWII or Ahmadinejad and his group in Iran. check

What would be culturally relative in North Korea and does that deserve our respect!

Cultural relativism leaves a society with its hands tied in the face of atrocities committed by people of other cultures. But we know intuitively that some things are wrong, not just for me or my culture but for all peoples and all cultures. To take a firm stand against the immoral acts of individuals or cultures one needs the foundation of moral absolutes. Therein lies the problem. At what point does a moral absolute like Murder become excused by a culture because it is culturally relative.
