Not sure where you are in the area but the biggest club by far around here is DC Fiats. We have well over 200 members with lots of running cars and at least one event per month. This Sunday is our next event...."Beers and Gears". We're going on a drive and ending up at the Flying Dog Brewery in Frederick, MD.

Check us out at:

Looking forward to seeing you sometime.

Thank you! I was checking the web site, sounds like lts of fun. I am going to try in getting this car running with the ICE still install so I can get familiar with it before I convert it.

Electric conversion in a Spider would be a difficult and expensive undertaking, IMHO. I think you'd need a power source other than lead-acid, as there's not much room in the back seat and trunk, and weight would really be a problem in such a lightweight car. Didn't I see a Miata conversion on a Discovery channel? Lots of bucks in LiIon or NiCad batteries, if I remember correctly. That's why the traditional route has been an S-10 or Neon.

A neat concept, particularly with new EV's pricing themselves out of the market. I think manufacturers lost sight of the real market for these cars. The Leaf I drove was a remarkable car, but all the bells and whistles really pushed the price way beyond the "justifiable" limit. ps a buddy of mine had a former-Mohawk Power Chevy P/U conversion. What a hoot!

Hope to see you Sunday. Fortunately, beer is a lot more low-tech than EV's!
