Big oil leak after my car if off!!!!!!!

Hey fellas my car will drip oil like under the trans after I shut it off any ideas to where is it coming from????? and how will i fix it or what is wrong?

Give it a good clean then see where it's coming from. Is it trans fluid or engine oil?

smells like trans oil but not sure? will try to get it cleaned up tomorrow and try to get some pictures to post!

But it leaks only after the car has being running and then shut off!

Good idea. If you can, perhaps engine cleaner,hose off, take for a drive and then park with clean cardboard or news paper underneath. Check in the morning and see what you have, any drips formed?

ok! well i put the car on a lift and the leak is coming from the top of the trans( yes its Trans oil). the guy at the shop tells me that the seal on the top of the transmission need to be replace the one between the shifter and trans????? or what else can it be cause the leak coming from the top. and if so do I need to take the trans off to replace it or can I get to it from the top by removing the console??????

There is a plug on the front of the shift housing on top of the transmission. Mine popped out at some point and I had oil leaking as you describe. I went to NAPA and got a replacement. In order to put it in I loosened the support at the back of the transmission and let it sag down as much as possible. Since you can't see it you have to do everything by sense of touch. I wiped all the excess oil off, then cleaned it with some carb cleaner on a rag. I put a dab of RTV on the plug to temporarily hold it in the opening. I then held a block of wood against the plug and hit it with a hammer to drive it in. To tell the truth I had an old hammer with a metal handle that I had to heat up and put a bend in. It was not easy but I didn't have to pull the transmission.

Here are a few pictures. The first is where the plug is located. This is a pic I snagged off the net.

The second is a picture of my shift housing. I had to hold the camera above the transmission and take several pictures until I got the aim right. You can see the plug is missing and there is dirt and oil around the opening.

On level ground/stands i filled until the oil was level with the fill hole (see below)

She'll take 1.75 U.S. Quarts, but do as Jay says and fill to the bottom of the fill plug.
The fill plug is the lower plug in Jay's photo.
