Disclaimer..I'm not a tech but reading the threds and descriptions I don't think head gasket as well.
How's the performance? Just perhaps, if you can, try a compression test. Takes about half an hour and you might have a cylinder with a marked difference in compression. If you do have a marked difference, then perhaps a leak-down test on that cylinder might tell you whether the rings or a valve is allowing oil into the combustion cylinder. I saw a video on leak down test and one supposed could tell if air is coming out the next doors spark plug hole, you might have a compromised head gasket.
Those are the things I would do on my car if I had the same issue..
A compression tester I bought from a local jobber store, decent quality, for about $50.00 and I bought a Snap-on leak down for about $90.00. I understand there are stores down there that will rent out some of these tools saving plenty if only need to use once or twice. The evolution itself is easy.

Re: Warm engine smokes from exhaust /fan operation
a leaking head gasket will allow coolant into the cylinder, not oil (other than a really rare, bizarre incident). So if you've got oil smoke, oil is either getting into the cylinder down the valve stem or by the piston rings
