Post by ga.spyder »

My name is Craig, and yes...I have a problem.I found out in early life,I liked to race and be on track. Now that the kids are gone(although we still pay the bills!!)I have found time to get on track in Lemons and Chumps races. But it wasnt enough.So...I have puchased(stole)a track day and auto-x car.It is however...errr..uhhh a MAZDA MIATA!! :o   I know,I know but it is an awesome sorted out car for a great price.Too many go fast, stop ,and cornering goodies to mention.Pictures tomorrow, and please dont hate me :(

Thanks Jay, We owe ya one. Craig, Do what feels right. Iv heard alot of good things about those cars and when you get our age you just have to go with what feels right. I envy you, I would do the same If the opportunity was presented here. Good luck and have enough fun for us both.

They are a great car, 4wheel disc brakes, twin cam, 5speed. Sound familiar?

I know what that bug is like...I;ve got young chilfren and try squeeze a couple of days here and there, good on you and the Miata (we call them MX-5 here on Oz) you would be my weapon of choice for a track car if not a Fiat, they are well made and balanced, I have been contemplating the series 1 1600 with a small turbo just to give it some more pep...

I found the car searching craigslist.I had to drive almost 600 miles to get it! It was used by the original owner and the fellow I bought it from mainly for track days and HPDE.The p/o got his licence, and bought a Formula V and had no garage space left for the Miata. It has been listed for a while with no takers. It is street legal, but in Fla you need emission cert.and the cat has been removed. Also the front turn signals are removed and converted into ducted brake cooling.I got all the original parts ,including 4 wheels and tires. Here is a list of some of the goodies
top end rebuilt and ported, with big valves and upgraded injectors
Spec Miata heavy duty trans with Exedy Stage 2 clutch and lightend flywheel
lowered suspension with performance shocks and springs
15'' wheels off a 2010 MX5 with brand new(less than 1K) Yokohama s drives 195/50x15.Exact same size and type as the tires as my Spider
aluminum 3 row radiator
side skirts(not currently installed),front and rear spoiler
Beautiful interior with a MOMO wheel
short(really short) shifter with a carbon fiber MOMO knob
Here is a link to the ads for the car.I negotiated in down a good bit.

I thought you were going to post this: Image

I'd rather see you thrash the crud out of Miata than a Spider. I've driven a Maita and it wasn't bad. I found it rather cramped inside, but a reasonably balanced car. Of course, I was test driving it for my daughter.

That looks like a very nice Miata. I test drove a used first gen model years ago. I wasnt impressed. It was to cramped for me and felt bland. Just my take on that car. I would imagine yours is actually fun though.

With all the suspension, and brake mods it seems to be a lot of fun.The motor has had some work done also, and it is very peppy. It is more cramped than the Spider, but again, the aim is to track it.I have done that a few times in my Spider, but I have too much time and money invested to beat it up.I would rather beat on the Miata!! One issue,it has been lowered so much,I had to throw together a ramp to get in the garage!!! The Miata seems to make up in substance what it lacks in style.
