Road Trip

Post by dmwhiteoak »

This past weekend the wife and I took a trip down to the gulf coast in the Spider. This is where all the inlaws live after they moved from south Louisiana. The Spider ran like a dream both ways. The only problem I had was the 3 1/2 hrs of gail force winds on the way down. 75-80 mph until we come to a town or cummunity where I had to slow down. When we arrived I felt just like the guy looked on the crotch rocket on cannonball run .I will work on a breeze beater of some sort. I wanted to take pics of the wife and dog but was threatened with divorce. About 35 m into the trip down we stopped at wallyworld and she bought her hat just like the WW11 fighter pilots wore. With her in the hat and the dogs head sticking above the windshield it was a funny site. Everytime we stopped someone would always approach the car and comment on the Spider. About half way home I asked her did she worry about the car holding up since I had disassembled and reattached just about eveything on it. The look when she realized it was priceless. The trip home was a more relaxed drive as we were not pressed for time.Perfect top down weather both days. After almost 500 miles , its still running great and maybe even better than before.

Glad you had a nice trip! That's what Spiders are for!
Making your own windbreak is pretty easy and it makes a huge difference in cutting down the wind.

WOW, you were able to get your wife to ride in your spider! Nice. My wife took one ride arround the block and gets mad when I take the kids for a drive. She says it's too small and that she does not feel safe in it. Lucky you. Sounds like you had a blast.

Katsi, I took almost a year for me to be able to drive over 50 mph without her screaming . I guess I won because once she put the hat and scarf on she leaned back and went to sleep. Only one time she reached over and patted my leg and said please so down. I backed off just enough to change the exaust tone and slowly went back up.I was very suprised. She even said she would like to take it again on trips when we don't have to have alot of room. Just take it slow, she will eventually come around, mine did. :D
