Use of washers on exhaust manifold studs

Post by jeb358 »

Would it be advisable to use "Williams washers" (heavy hardened washer with bevel on one side) on the exhaust manifold
studs before the nuts? I have used them used on other vehicle exhaust manifolds.
I also have used nickel (nuclear grade) high temp anti-seize on threads on similar applications would this also be
advisable?

I used the anti-sieze,with nickel lock washer and nuts on the manifold and manifold to pipe as per Ital and Clemente's recomendation. After a few days driving check for tightness again.
I couldn't find the brass? nuts locally so asked what they use.

I thought it was copper nuts that are extra reliable on exhaust manifolds.

iirc VW used them on aircooled engines.
