Cold start issues
Cold start issues
I have a 1978 128 Spider. I have been servicing this car for 14 years and recently bought it from my customer. EVERYTHING mechanical is in tip top condition except for a cold start problem that I can't figure out. The car is in a heated garage every day. Sometimes I have to put it outside for a day and when I go to start it, I'm pushing it. It's got a 10 year old rebuilt 32ADFA Weber in it, it squirts fuel down the pipe but coughs once and no starts under 40d F. The emission stuff is disconnected, the idle solenoid works but it will not start cool to cold outside. Any ideas? BTW this car is for sale.

Re: Cold start issues
I believe that Fiat used dual point distributors on the '78 models: when cold, the retarded set of points were used and when warmed-up it switched to the more advanced set. Check to see if you still have the dual point setup and check the advance.

Thanks George,
The distributor on this car is is optical with fins.
Re: Cold start issues
if it coughs once and doesn't fire, probably not rich enough when cold
