how did you find out about FS.com?
Just kind of wondering while sitting here munching cheese (like a good Canadian ) and crackers for lunch, how did you find out about FS.Com?
My story is in 06 I was given a 79 shell with all the parts in boxes. I was told in getting a parts car was a cheaper way to finish and perhaps get what you need. Did that but after a couple of years of dicking around I came accross this site from Google and "lurked" for a bit before jumping in. I tell you now that if I knew about this site before I started the Fiat adventure I would have saved thousands of $$$.
I have passed on this site to just about any with a spider I have run accross since.

Being a bit of an online kind of guy when I bought Fiona in Sept'11 I immediately set out to find the best resource for my new found passion. The rest they say, is history.
P.S. there is also a newly developed Facebook page that people should take a look at as well
(work restriction limits the link post here )

Re: how did you find out about FS.com?
When I was a senior in high school, I secretly wanted a Spider.
However, all of my friends (and myself included) were driving good old American muscle cars.
I restored a beautiful 1965 Barracuda, with mods enough to go to the drag strip on the weekends.
Anyhow, if I had revealed to my friends that I wanted a Fiat, they would have all disowned me back then.
That was the year 1980.
Fast-forward to 2012.
I bought a 1980 Spider as part of my therapy to my mid-life crisis.
As soon as I bought it, I searched the web for any and all information related to Fiat Spiders and ran across this forum.
I was worried about the timing belt, and I found quite a few Fiat Spider timing belt web search results pointing to this site.
After reading numerous posts, it didn't take long for me to realize what a good group of folks frequented this forum and I had to join it.
So here I am enjoying each time I log in, more than the last time I logged in.

Re: how did you find out about FS.com?
Found this site and it was the last bit of encouragement needed to buy my third spider. I was just doing a random search and typed something like "Fiat spider electical problems" remembering the many I had over the years and BAM! I found this site. The first spider was in high School, a very beat up 79 purchased for a couple hundred dollars. the second spider was for wife and I in early 90's. it was an 83 that we fixed on a budget because that was all we could afford but the car was magnificant and never let us down or left us stranded. So, a couple years ago I jumped back in with both feet after buying an 82'. The best year as you all know. . Seriously, this is a great resource and a lot of fun.
Buon giro a tutti! - enjoy the ride!

Re: how did you find out about FS.com?
I was "digitizing" a bunch of old 35mm slides and came across some pictures of my '72 spider. I bought it when I graduated from University and had to sell it after marriage and first born arrived - not great for groceries and car seat. Figured that since I no longer had to worry about the car seat thing I should get back into the game. Googled Fiat Spider, found this site, joined and posted the above story. Chris (Narfire) sent me a PM telling me that SpiderJim in Campbell River, which is just up the road from my house, had two spiders and was thinking about selling one. I got in touch with Jim and bought his mint condition '80 Fi. While I don't drive it a lot, I sure do enjoy it when I do! I've found this site to be a valuable resource - and have met some great folks through it.

I just happened across my Spider while looking for something other than my truck to drive to work. I don't remember ever hearing about a Spider but once I saw it , I was in love. The day I brought it home I googled Fiat Spider and it led me here. What a blessing , lots of good info and a pretty good lot of people, when there not posting that terrible picture of that m####a. courtenay, how do you not drive your car? I have owned lots of cars and trucks in my lifetime and have never had the desire to drive anything like I do my Spider. If I could pull my cattle trailer with it I would sell my truck. Rodman, you just wait till you get that jewel on the road and you will see what I mean.

I had just purchased a 79 and while driving it for the first time it overheated I tried to add coolant but still no love. So I did what I always do any more; I Googled it. It wasn't long before I learned that a spider had to be properly 'burped'. Gee I thought I'd purchased a car not a baby! Anyway this sight has been a blessing to me and the wonderful baby I adopted

It's been too long for me to remember. Probably a Google search, or Yahoo search, or whatever we used for searching way back then before Google. Prior to that, I got all the info I needed from my trusty local Foreign Auto Parts Store, owned by a likeable guy named Peter. When he folded up shop, I had to find a different resource for the spider, so the internet was the answer.

Re: how did you find out about FS.com?
When I first got my spider a guy in the parking lot at the grocery store asked what year it was. I said it was a 78. He said it looked like a 79 or later model because of the hood bumps and door latches. I went home and searched the net and found a site called fiatcenter.com. I was on that site for quite awhile when someone posted a question about not being able to get into fiatspider.com. The site was having trouble staying up and someone was trying to buy the site. Evan finally got it up again and it has been a wealth of information and inspiration ever since.
It is a 78 with the hood and doors from an 81, and probably some other parts as well.

courtenay, how do you not drive your car?
My problem Dennis is that I'm retired with too much time and too many toys. We spend 4 - 6 weeks in the summer, which up here is prime top down time in our RV at a fishing resort on the Northern part of the Island. I'm on my boat pretty much every day fishing and whale watching in one of the most beautiful parts of the country. As far as the rest of the year goes, my car has rarely been driven in the rain - only once since I got it and it wasn't planned - which is, I suppose, why it has so few miles on it given we live in a rain forest up here.
Anyway - I do enjoy driving the Fiat and try to do so whenever i can.

Ok courtenay, as long as a boat and fishing is involved it is understood. And the beautiful country doesn't hurt.

Re: how did you find out about FS.com?
My seduction to a Spider began before the internet with a brand spankin' new 70. drove this car as a daily driver for 23 years. Then i parked out back where mother nature did her dashes to ashes, dust to rust thing. When I settled into my AZ job, I decided it was time to restore. Since the 70 was too far gone (only by west coast standards. it would have "minor rust" by east coast standards), a bought an 80FI and went to work. Found the Mirafiori forum where this site was mentioned on occasion. So, here i am.

Re: how did you find out about FS.com?
I've had my spider going on 28 years now. It's sat undriven for probably 15 years now. One day started to see what info I could find about it other than what I had personally experienced (=worked on or fixed). Few seconds of google search found me here couple years ago. Since then I've been formulating a restoration plan but the lack of time (and backing of s/o) hasnt gotten me very far but hopefully that will change soon. I've checked out other sites and view them every now and again but fs.com is the only one saved as a bookmark. Hopefully one day soon there will be a road pic instead of a garage pic.
