Congrats on the fix. I find myself Babying mine over all humps and dips. I hope I continue to do so.

Did you have to pull the engine to change the pan? I know there are aftermarket guards for the oil pan but is one really needed?

You can change pan with out removing engine by raising it up. Good time for new motor mounts while your there. The good guards do help with bottoming out on dips and such but not alot of people I have seen actually have them.

I hope to know the feeling maybe this weekend when the next shipment of parts arrive.

Temps unusually high in Northern Virginia today. Left work early and bolted one seat back into my Spider (gutted for carpet and console upgrade) to go for a top down spin. Thanks again to George Ramos for discouraging me from putting the car up on blocks for the winter. Twas a good afternoon.

You do not have to pull the engine, but you need to undo the motor mount nuts and jack up the engine by the bellhousing.
Then you can drop the pan down enough to be able to unbolt the oil pump and oil return tube so the pan can come out.

I never had a guard, and I killed one oil pan/pump in 20+years of Spidering. That hit was so hard that likely a guard would not have helped. However guards have saved many oil pans over the years on other Spiders.

Csaba,
I appreciate the quick shipping on the oil pump and pan gasket...made the job go much faster! I did manage to get the pan out without unbolting the oil pump from inside the pan. It wasn't easy, but it worked! The guards that I've seen would most likely not have helped.
