Timing belt tool

Post by blakevan »

Does anyone know where I can get a tool like this to hold the camshafts while changing a timing belt? I know I can do this without it but for a rookie this seems like a good idea.

that tool is a great piece for a museum... :) it is not needed for the installation of the timing belt, the cams will stay in place, and even if they move you can just move them back

They don't exist. They made one for that picture, and then it was destroyed right away :-)

Seriously, I have never seen one. You don't need one, nobody else has ever used one either.

Just be sure to turn the engine over 2 revolutions BY HAND (or ratchet) before you start it up.

I also have one, Fiat part # A.60319 Tool, locking timing sprockets while changing belt. As listed in Fiat 124 Sport Coupe- Spider, 1973/74 USA Versions, Specifications and Data manual. This manual has all the specs and data you might want for the 1973 1600 or 1974 1800.

I got it sorted by just changing it and marking per a different manual. Thanks for all the replies.

If you do have a tool, could you take a photo overlaid on some graph paper and provide rough dimensions? I would like to try and see if I could make one. Thanks!
