IDF Air Cleaner height

I'll be installing a set of IDFs w/OEM waffle manifold on a 1979
Spider 2000. Anyone know how high of an air cleaner can be used before the air
cleaners hit the hood. I was thinking of the square type of air cleaner.

You have a lot more room under the big bump hood than I do under the flat hood but the way I measured it was I layed a piece of cardboard over the stacks and a lightly crumpled ball of aluminum foil, gently closed the hood and measured the height of the aluminum. You can add for the distance where the air cleaners will sit on the carb. I had to measure it on the front and back edges since that was the least amount of clearance under my flat hood.

Thanks Denise, I do not have the carbs yet and was looking for
suggestions. I'll wait for the carbs before I do anything.

Do you have the air horn height for your idfs? I have found that air cooled vw shops have a great selection of air filters with different heights for idf carbs. I've seen them as small as 1 1/2 to 4"s tall .
