Re: The Boys First Picture Together
I can't get to the car to take pictures right now thanks to my other Fiat blocking it in (oil pan removed awaiting my new oil pump).
I sanded the rims and sprayed them silver with a very light metal flake. The dark areas were painted a satin dark grey (almost black). To mask off the rims, I masked it up and trimed along the wheel lines with an Xacto knife. That ensured the lines were clean. The shiny part are chrome beauty rims from a 1985 Ford Escort. The originals were beat to heck and needed to be replaced.
This photo isn't a close up, but you can see the colors more accurately:

i did mine the same way but used a flat black paint
i then went up to my brothers garage and stole the trim rings off of his Triumph spitfire because he wont need them for a while

Thanks, I'll probably give that a go, they look really nice. I think I'll go with Satin black for mine, but I have a red car.spidernut wrote: I sanded the rims and sprayed them silver with a very light metal flake. Re: The Boys First Picture Together
nice, did you use just regular sand paper? or a wire wheel? or what?
Re: The Boys First Picture Together
i pressure washed them first to get as much grime off as possible. then used 100 grit sand paper to get the rust spots down to metal and scuff up the old paint. then i went over it lightly with 200 grit paper. wiped them down with a tack cloth and started taping them up. i will admit, it did suck but i found it was a great help to have one of those rolling stools for shop use. the rim seemed to fit on it perfectly and i sat in a chair with the stool in front of me adjusted to a comfortable height and was able to spin the wheel around while working on it. it also came in handy while painting it after i threw an old sheet over the stool.
Re: The Boys First Picture Together
Great thanks!
hm... i'll need to rig something up like that. I don't have one of those stools. Sounds nice.

I sanded mine with 320, then 400, primed and sprayed. I painted the wheels in 2000 and they still look amazing!

I painted my steelies all satin black and added stainless steel trim rings and I'm really pleased how they turned out.
