Reviving seats and arm rests

Post by sbbaxter »

I'm looking to change the red vinyl seats in my '78 Spider to black, so was going to buy some slip on covers. But the seat bottom foam seems to have collapsed. The bottom sides seem quite floppy and don't offer much support.

Does anyone know where to get new seat foams?

Also, I'd like to replace the chrome strip in the arm rests. Both mine have separated/corroded. Any suggestions on where to get these, or what they could be replaced with?

Thanks!

I'd try a local upholstery shop for the seat foams. They would probably have new vinyl to cover them as well. All depends on how much you want to invest.

The work of a competent upholsterer is going to beat the covers hands down every time, but it is pricey. I am looking at about $900 to have the front and back seats completely done, foam and upholstery, in original style, (seams, pleats, etc to match factory.) This is not in leather of course.

$900  I wish! In Ottawa I am looking @ $2000 for marine grade seams, vinyl & foam all seats and cover. I should make a road trip

(I thought it was about right, lol) I did ask him what his slowest month is, (January) and will pay cash, and he can use it for filler work as I am in no big rush in said January (or February either for that matter) so maybe that makes some sense?
