Just came back from the Pick A Part in Monrovia, CA (on Peck Rd.). There's an 81 there that just came in on 12/11/12. Lots of stuff still on the car, including the Ferrero steering wheel and 2 CD19 (Iron Cross) wheels that look to be in pretty good shape. I'd have taken the steering wheel, but sadly did not have my 22mm socket with me.
Just thought I'd mention it for any of our SoCalers who are into that sort of thing.

Is there anything salvagable in the interior? What color is the interior? I know that this is a long shot since 99% of salvage yard cars have trashed and weathered interiors? However, if good interior parts I'd consider paying someone going to pick parts anyway to pic a few items and compensate them for thier efforts.

Interior is tan. It's been sitting out in the rain this week, and the seats looked pretty rough overall. There may be some plastic panels worth salvaging, but I'd say its a long shot. Dash and consoles are trashed except for the center dash insert which I brought home in hopes that someone will be able to use it (didn't want it to sit out in the rain and get ruined). I'll post some pics in the parts for sale section later today.

Steve, you just need a set of metric allen wrenches to get the steering wheel off. Just take out the 6 allen screws around the horn button.

Yeah - that occurred to me later. I was thinking I needed the adapter as well, but if I had thought it through, I would have realized that I already have an adapter on my car, so all I really needed was the steering wheel. Worse yet, I had my metric allen wrenches with me, so I could have just popped it off and come home with it today.rlux4 wrote:Steve, you just need a set of metric allen wrenches to get the steering wheel off. Turns out they are having a 1/2-off-all-parts sale on Monday, so I may go back then and see if it's still there. If not, I'll just assume the Fiat gods meant for someone else to have it.

Steve, Thanks for the update and details. I have the red interior with the two tone inside door panels. A previous owner wired a mini speaker in the top part of the door. I've rewired the entire car but have two black mini speaker face plate on the upper part of my two tone interior panel to cover the hole made for speaker wire. It looks OK but is one of the small items that anyone who knows what the door pannels are supposed to look like says "whats that".

So a noob question. What is the significance of a Ferrero steering wheel and how do you know if a car has one?

The Ferrero steering wheel is what the manufacturer put on the car from the factory. Some like the size of it while others think it is too big. many change to the Momo wooden wheel or an earlier style depending on your year. The later model Spider will have Ferrero written in script on the steering wheel itself.

Thanks. I have an 82 and that explains the steering wheel in it. I wondered why the name was engraved on the wheel.
