Living in San Antonio and dealing in cars you become aware of the taxes that the Mexican Government levies on current +1, +2, +3 model year cars entering the country. The taxation to bring a new or slightly used vehicle in the country literally doubles the price. What you see on the highways are tons of "cars In tow" heading South over the border. Typically it is an old pickup truck pulling a 10 year old american car over the border where it will be sold for all the money. Good business venture! On top of that, the people of Mexico similar to the people of Cuba will fix anything in order to have running transportation. The country has a huge gap between those that can afford a car and those that can not. Those that can not afford a car are very creative. With all that said.... You see some pretty sad cars in tow going into Mexico to be used. At times the method of tow is humerous as well because it is all they can afford. last week I saw a mid seventies chevy pickup truck with the bed converted to a flatbed. It had a Chevette sitting on the flat bed and a Daewoo Lanos in tow behind it.

My wife thought it would be offensive to take the picture because some people would not understand the reality. Still, I thought it was pretty darn funny!
