Anyone know what this is???

Post by seabeelt »

Looking at the picture, the knob to the left of the steering colum is the choke, but what does the one to the right of the steering column do?

Darn it , it cut the photo off. Anyway there is a similar knob to the right of the column.

It seems like the two should work together, but i have been only using the left one (yellow and icon looks like squirting fuel) to start the car and contol the idle until it warms up. Should I, or do I need to be using both at the same time??

YA , couldln't get myself in the picture. Camera lens crack issues  Besides how are you supposed to get in the photo when one hand operates the camera and the other is used to text/post at the the same time while trying to drive and adjust the knob. I know, I know,, grow a third hand, or a second head..... hmmm so many choices

I believe its a manual choke. I had a 124 sedan in Spain that had the same thing.

My 71 has the same thing. It acts directly on the gas pedal and can be used to open the throttle. I thought it was maybe a high idle type control like we have on some industrial engines but it doesnt seem to stay where you put it. I.e. springs back to closed throttle when you let go. does yours stay in the position you put it or does it spring back?

It shouldn't slide back, it's meant to hold the throttle in a set position. There may be a nut on the back side that will adjust tension on the cable.
