I talked to Goober, too. He wanted $509.00 for a steering gearbox for my 1 ton truck. I found it for $175.00 at NAPA.

Thank goodness he no longer works at Verizon. I was getting weary of talking with him.

They couldn't possibly hire a replacement that's even more dense, could they :?:

I get that frequently at the bagel bakery. I order a dozen, and goobete asks, "For here or to go?"

THEN ... After I accept the offer of freezer bags, once placed in the paper sack, I say, "Thank you." He/She says, "No problem." One trip (been going there ten years), I couldn't stand it any more. "Wrong," I say. :? :? :? is the look I get. "The correct reply to 'thank you' is 'you're welcome'" I say. "Were you raised by wolves?" That just confused him more, and I wonder if he asked his parents that evening what the phrase meant. Probably not; just another crazy old fart ...

Ha!

Baltobernie, I could not help but chime in here because you have just tapped a nerve of mine (me being an old fart, too -- just turned 50 in October).
Not only do you sometimes get "no problem" as the response to "thank-you", but I often get (from the 20-somethings):
Uh-huh
or
Yep
or
Yeah
or
No worries

It bugs the crap out of me!
I have a 19-year-old and he ALWAYS says "you're welcome" or "my pleasure".
I hope he always will, and I hope that if he ever has children, he will teach them. I'm pretty sure he will.

More than anything, I hate "no worries" and "uh huh"

ahhh, the elusive "you're welcome" replaced by:

"ain't no thing" (suburban)
"ain't no thang, dawg" (urban)
"ain't no ting" (creole-ish)
"ain't nuthin' " (rural)

Bernie,
"No problem" is also a major pet peeve of mine. I always wonder if I'd have been served if they had considered it a problem.
Another Goober (may have been the same one) must have had a job at Subway. I ordered a Subway Melt and she asked if I wanted it toasted. I asked "Isn't that covered in the 'melt' part of the name?"
